Text Box: For even I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served but to serve others, and to give my life as a ransom for many." Matthew 20:28 NLT

Jesus’ mission on this earth was to serve others and to give His life away. In doing so, Jesus described leadership from a new perspective. That is, instead of using people, we are to serve them. In other words, servant leaders appreciate others and are concerned about their needs and inquire how they can be of a help to them. A real leader has a servant heart, and it shows because they never put themselves above doing any task, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. A real leader takes the initiative to faithfully serve others, or as I would say, a real leader gives great godly “costumer service.” They are loving, joyful, peaceful, kind, gentle, faithful, good people. (See Galatians 5:22-23)

Jesus showed His servant attitude by washing the feet of His disciples. This job was usually carried out by a household servant when guests arrived. But Jesus wrapped a towel around His waist, as the lowliest slave would do, and washed and dried His disciples’ feet. As believers, we must follow this example set by Jesus Christ, and be willing to serve in any way that glorifies God. As we follow this path of humble serving, we will certainly receive God’s blessing.

After washing their feet, He put on His robe again and sat down and asked, "Do you understand what I was doing? You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and you are right, because it is true. And since I, the Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other's feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. How true it is that a servant is not greater than the master. Nor are messengers more important than the one who sends them. You know these things — now do them! That is the path of blessing. John 13:12-17 NLT

Let me give an example of bad and great customer service from the Bible. This is the story of a man who brought his sick child to Jesus’ disciples for healing, but they could not heal the boy even though they received authority from Jesus to do healing. They just did not have faith, and because of this lacking of belief, they provided bad “costumer service.” So Jesus, always ready help, took over the case and gave great costumer service by completely healing the boy, rebuking the demon out of him.

A man came and knelt before Jesus and said, "Lord, have mercy on my son, because he has seizures and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. So I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn't heal him." Jesus replied, "You stubborn, faithless people! How long must I be with you until you believe? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to me." Then Jesus rebuked the demon in the boy, and it left him. From that moment the boy was well.

Afterward the disciples asked Jesus privately, "Why couldn't we cast out that demon?" "You didn't have enough faith," Jesus told them. "I assure you, even if you had faith as small as a mustard seed you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible." Matthew 17:14-20 NLT

Jesus promises a reward for those who have been faithful servants to the Master - those who watch for Him, work diligently, and obey His commands.

Be dressed for service and well prepared, as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let Him in the moment He arrives and knocks. There will be special favor for those who are ready and waiting for His return. I tell you, He himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat! He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn. But whenever He comes, there will be special favor for His servants who are ready! Luke 12:35-38 NLT

Jesus, the head of “customer service” is looking forward to say to His faithful servants before they enter into the wedding banquet He has prepared:

Well done, my good and faithful servant. Matthew 25:21 NLT
